Imagine a world with no art. No live concerts to attend, no stand-up comedy shows to watch on the weekends, no storytelling shows to soothe your soul. What would that world look like?
From Live Aid to Global Citizen Festival to I for India, artists have always given their art to make the world a better, safer space. Now, it’s our turn to make the artists feel safe. The Covid-19 crisis has hit the performance arts industry hard - many artists, who survive from show to show, have lost out on confirmed projects and their entire revenue streams with zero income coming in. Many artists who have just started out and don’t have savings to fall back on might not have an option but to stop creating. And because of this, we are in danger of losing out on an entire generation of artists who might have changed the world, or at least a little part of it, through their art.
Stayin Alive is joining hands with GiveIndia to support performing artists and other members of the live entertainment industry who have lost all sources of income in this lockdown. Members of the Stayin Alive community - Kommune, Big Bang Music, Insider, OML, Tabhrasa, Shark & Ink, Kwan. Tarsem Mittal, Unmute, Art X Company, Priyanka Khimani - have come together to contribute their time and art to save art. There will be a series of online events to raise funds for this initiative and the tentpole event on May 16. The funds collected will go to only those artists who are most in need of it, after a transparent verification process.
The only way to stop the spread of the virus is to prevent it. Let’s come together and help India fight Coronavirus, so we can go back to a world with art and our humanity intact.
